Thomas Altmeyer - Vice President, Federal Affairs - Arch Coal Inc.

TOM ALTMEYER is vice president of Federal Affairs for Arch Coal, Inc. Arch Coal is one of the nation’s largest coal producers, with 2011revenues of nearly $4 billion.  Altmeyer’ s responsibilities include coordination and interaction in Washington, D.C. on behalf of Arch with the United States Congress, federal agencies as well as domestic and international organizations seeking to impact public policy affecting coal production and use.

Prior to joining Arch Coal in 2002, Altmeyer spent 14 years representing the coal and mining industries at the National Mining Association and the National Coal Association.  In those capacities, he helped facilitate the interests of coal producers both domestically and internationally.  Prior to his involvement with the coal industry, Altmeyer worked as counsel to the U.S. Senate Labor and Education Committee and practiced for several years as an attorney with the U.S. government in labor relations.

Altmeyer is a past chairman of the Washington Coal Club and the National Energy Resources Organization.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA from the University of Connecticut, and a law degree from Loyola University–New Orleans.
